Open in 2000, Tate Modern has been set in an old power station in the heart of London. The museum is organised by themes and shows the collection of British and world art from 1500 to the present day. The Tate Modern Collection is composed of four wings: Surrealism, Minimalism, post-war abstraction in Europe and the US and 3 linked trends Cubism, Futurism and Vorticism.
Each wing has a large central display and some moving displays around. The large central display of each wing focus on turning points of 20th century art history. The themes through the wings: Material Gesture, Poetry and Dream, Scale, Energy and Process, Not Ghost just a Shell and State of Flux bring together work by artists from different generations. Mixing past and present, the visitors can feel the evolution and continuity of art movements.
