The story begins in the UK during the miners strike in 1984-1985 in which Billy's Father and Brother are part of. These events result in disturbing the family harmony and in making any discussion a total anarchy of shouts. Billy is a confused and angry child that only has his dreams to keep him going. Secretly he holds the wish to become a famous ballet dancer. But his homophobic and chauvinist family is completely against it. While growing up without motherly love, he really misses a female presence in his life. But thanks to his ballet teacher advice he tries to make his dreams real.

After the first hard clash with his father the musical becomes less tense but more exiting; in this part of the play everyone accepts his decision and supports him until the end.
