Shall we dance?

The theatrical dance remake by Adam Cooper, Shall we dance? is based on the original 1937 film by Mark Sandrich.
The story is about a young man looking for true love. He will travel from the Orient to the Wild West and discover new cultures and dances.

In the film, the main characters are featured by Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Shall We Dance? was such a great hit that it was recreated several times through the past seven decades on the big screen and on stage.
Adam Cooper, the former Royal Ballet principal dancer and creator of the role of the Swan in Matthew Bourne's all-male version of Swan Lake, has returned to London's Sadler's Wells and made his own production of Shall We Dance, a dance tribute to the music of Richard Rodgers.

For his musical directed by Richard Balcombe and designed by Paul Farnsworth, Adam Cooper invented the choreographies himself and uses a wide range of dance types from Russian folk dance to Viennese waltzes passing through New York Jazz.
With a cast of over 40 dancers and musicians, the show is composed of flawless choreographies , has a captivating story line and relies on the actress Emma Samms, Cooper's wife and fellow dancer Sarah Wildor and Cooper himself.

The music, comprised entirely of melodies by iconic Broadway composer Richard Rodgers , includes music from South Pacific, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma!, Carousel, Babes in Arms, On Your Toes, The King and I, State Fair, Pal Joey and many more. Best known for his partnerships with lyricists Oscar Hammerstein II and Lorenz Hart, Richard Rodgers composed music for over 900 songs and 40 musicals before his death in 1979. He won the Pulitzer Prize; Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Awards.

This time around, Adam Cooper's Shall We Dance? has been a highly anticipated theatre show for Adam Cooper's reknowned choreographer.
