The Woman in Black

The Woman in Black has been shown in the London Theatres since 1989. Currently performing at the Fortune, the musical is a must-see, it is used to selling out all of its shows. It is based on the horror novel of Susan hill.

Thanks to its very good crafted plot, the Woman in Black musical chills audiences. The story focuses on a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps, who is called to the small English village Crythin Gifford to attend the funeral of Mrs Alice Drablow. During the funeral he notices a woman dressed in black with a pale face. By then, he starts hearing many strange noises such as animals and young child screams. He ends up by being haunted and he realises that his life and family are not safe any more. The local legend of Crythin Gifford tells that those who saw the woman in Black will lose a child soon.

Even if nowadays horror films are quite harder than this musical, The Woman in Black still has the chilling atmosphere that shocks the audience and keeps them on the edge of the seat through the entire show. The well selected cast is ably led by director Robin Herford. In particular Andrew Jarvis stands out superbly playing the role of the ill-fated protagonist Arthur Kipps.

This production of The Woman in Black is suitable for all theatre lovers and Gothic novel lovers. It is possible that children may find this performance frighting and some scenes are definitely inappropriate for young children. Therefore The Woman in Black is recommended for adults especially.
